How To Fix “Unfortunately app has stopped working” Error On Mi Mix 2, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Mi A2 And Others

If you use a Xiaomi phone or any Android phone in general, you’ve probably seen one of the “Unfortunately app has stopped working” messages by now. For example, “Unfortunately Whatsapp has stopped working”, “Unfortunately YouTube has stopped working”, etc. Sometimes these errors will keep coming & end up making your smartphone using experience awful. So, how to fix this “Unfortunately app has stopped working” error on Mi Mix 2, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Mi A2, and other Xiaomi phones or any other Android phone? Well, just follow one of these simple methods.

Restart Your Device

It may sound weird but, a simple restart often fixes this issue. So, before you perform any of the upcoming methods, just restart your device & check if the issue still occurs or not.

Clean the Cache of the application

If a restart doesn’t help, you can try cleaning the Cache of the app that is stopping frequently. To do this, go to “Settings” & locate the Installed Apps List. It might be called “All apps” or “Installed apps” or something else so, just search for apps in the Search box inside settings & locate the right option. If you’re using a Stock Android-powered device like the Mi A2 for example, go to “Apps & notifications” & click on “see all x apps” ( here “x” refers to the total number of apps).

Locate the app you’re having trouble with, click on it and find “Storage”. Click on “Storage” and you’ll find the “Clear Cache” option. Click on that and you’re done.

Uninstall & then Reinstall the application

If cleaning the Cache doesn’t help either then Uninstalling & Reinstalling the app will be a good option. If you’re doing that, first make sure that you have a backup created for the apps that store important data locally. For example, make a Google Drive backup for Whatsapp if you don’t want to lose all your chats (Google Drive backup can be done from Whatsapp settings).

After you’re done with the backup (only if needed), uninstall the app from your phone, restart your device & then install the app again from Play Store. Hopefully, that’ll solve the issue.

Note: If the issue begins after an update (from Play Store), it’s there in that version of the app only & should be fixed in the next update. So, don’t uninstall & reinstall in that case. Just wait for the next update to arrive.

If the issue still persists

if none of the things, I’ve mentioned above are working then it might be firmware-related. So, in this case, the software of your phone is the devil. This can also start after a Firmware update that your smartphone company pushed out. So, you’ll have to wait for the next firmware update in that case.

Or if that just started randomly, you can perform a “Factory Reset” & that should fix the issue. But remember, this is the last thing you want to do. Do a reset only if nothing else is working. Otherwise, don’t do it. Also, if you’re doing a reset, Backup your Internal Storage first. A reset wipes out the data in your Internal Memory.
